Course 1: BattleMech
Training
Welcome to 'Mech
training...MechWarrior.
Ahhh, the BattleMech. It is a glorious
thing. Standing 10 meters tall, over 60 tons of weaponry and all
under one pilot's control. Your control. This is where you will
learn how to build and use your 'Mech effectively. Especially in
battle.
Intelligence has come in on all clan
tech that you will be up against. Review the following document
carefully:
There are so many approaches to 'Mech
building. You will find that each custom 'Mech has its own
personality, just as will yours. But as I say "Listen to the
experts, then do what you were going to do in the first
place." So, here are the experts:
And here are some recommendations that you may not find in your 'Mech's technical
manuals::
Do not over-use locking missiles. Your
targeting skills will only get better if you practice
targeting, not locking. Locking missiles are good for
long range volleys while you are marching into medium
range. Once there, unload with your auto-cannons, PPCs,
and medium lasers.
Keep at least one energy weapon in the torso
or the head. This will probably be your last standing
weapon after all others have been destroyed.
Keep ammunition in the side torsos and/or
arms. Keep that ammo on the same side as the weapon that
it is supplying. This organization helps when the ammo is
ignited and the entire half of the 'Mech disintegrates in
a white flash. You want an SSRM6 Ammo (left torso)
explosion to take out the SSRM6 (left torso), instead of
the ER-PPC (right torso).
Keep heat-sinks and jump jets in the feet
and torso of the BattleMech. Preserve both as long as
possible. The heat-dicipating heat sinks allow more
frequnt use of your energy weapons and the jump jets are
good tools for avoiding direct hits.
Increase your 'Mech's armor at least a
reasonable tonnage. You will need this protection on the
battlefield.
Put all Endo-Steel and Ferro-Fibrous armor
components in the arms. In the current simulators
(MechWarrior2 series), your armor does not have to be
distributed. Beware though, MechWarrior3 will probably
require the 'Mech builder to have the Endo-Steel and
Ferro-Fibrous armor distributed evenly throughout the
'Mech...so do not go getting used to this method of
freeing up critical slots.
